Updated August 2024
This Tech Note describes an optional configuration of the robot screen during a session. This configuration applies to robots with Cisco codecs, and are powered by behaviors and settings in the codec.
For the configuration changes described, it is assumed that the codec is starting with the default configuration as documented in the Ava Robot Installation and Configuration Guide.
You can access codec settings by browsing to Codec Web UI, and then going into Settings/Configuration. Each setting is searchable in the web UI's search bar.
Future upgrades to codec software may affect the functioning described below. Please contact support@avarobotics.com if anything does not work as expected.
Enabling Selfview
The robot’s default configuration does not display its own camera view on its screen (aka “selfview”). However, some use cases for Ava may benefit from selfview being turned on so that the user in front of Ava can see how the camera is capturing them.
In this mode, it is usually best that the selfview be presented right under the robot’s main camera. This minimized the gaze angle that the remote users perceive when the user in front of the robot is looking at the selfview.
In order to enable selfview on the robot’s screen, change these two configurations in the codec’s settings:
Settings -> Configurations -> Video ->Selfview->DefaultMode = On
Settings -> Configurations -> Video ->Video, Selfview-Default->PIPPosition = UpperCenter
For RoomKit Codecs, please also change the following setting:
Settings -> Configurations -> Video ->Video, Selfview->, OnCall-> Mode = On
After changing the configuration, place a test call to make sure it’s working as you desire.
Please note that depending on the codec’s software version, the selfview may appear on the top-right of the screen when the robot is not in a session.
