A-021: Configuring Ava for Showing “Content” in Call

Updated August 2024

This Tech Note describes an optional configuration of the robot screen during a session. This configuration applies to robots with Cisco codecs, and are powered by behaviors and settings in the codec.

For the configuration changes described, it is assumed that the codec is starting with the default configuration as documented in the Ava Robot Installation and Configuration Guide.

You can access codec settings by browsing to Codec Web UI, and then going into Settings/Configuration. Each setting is searchable in the web UI's search bar.

Future upgrades to codec software may affect the functioning described below. Please contact support@avarobotics.com if anything does not work as expected.

Show "Content" in Call

When in a session in which the call is split, the remote user can share their screen or applications (aka sharing content), and the robot will display on the main screen. If this is not working as expected, please refer to the documented codec settings in the Ava Telepresence Robot Installation and Configuration Guide. If still any issue, please contact support@avarobotics.com.

In the default screen layout, when a remote user shares content, the camera view from the remote user is likely to still be visible on the robot screen. However, some use cases for Ava may prefer that the content be displayed in full screen and no visibility be provided for remote user’s camera.

In order make this change, configurations in the codec’s settings:

  • Settings -> Configurations -> Video -> DefaultFamilyLayout -> LocalContent = Single (aka Focus)

  • Settings -> Configurations -> Video -> DefaultFamilyLayout -> = Single Remote = Single (aka Focus)
